Genetic Makeup:Recessive for both melanoid (m/m) and albinism (a/a).

Care Requirements

Regardless of their genetic coloration, the Melanoid Albino axolotl requires the same strict environmental parameters as any Ambystoma mexicanum. They are fully aquatic amphibians that never undergo metamorphosis.

  • Temperature: Strictly 60°F to 68°F (15°C to 20°C). Temperatures above 70°F cause severe stress and fungal infections.
  • Water Quality: 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrites, and Nitrates below 20ppm. A fully cycled tank is non-negotiable.
  • Diet: Carnivorous. Earthworms and dendrobaena worms are the staple diet for adults.
  • Substrate: Bare bottom for juveniles under 5 inches. Fine sand for adults. Never use gravel, as it causes fatal impaction.
