Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) Axolotl: Care, Genetics, and Picture Guide
GFP axolotls have been genetically modified to include a protein from jellyfish, causing them to glow bright green under UV or blacklight. This trait can be passed down to offspring.

Care Requirements
Regardless of their genetic coloration, the Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) axolotl requires the same strict environmental parameters as any Ambystoma mexicanum. They are fully aquatic amphibians that never undergo metamorphosis.
- Temperature: Strictly 60°F to 68°F (15°C to 20°C). Temperatures above 70°F cause severe stress and fungal infections.
- Water Quality: 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrites, and Nitrates below 20ppm. A fully cycled tank is non-negotiable.
- Diet: Carnivorous. Earthworms and dendrobaena worms are the staple diet for adults.
- Substrate: Bare bottom for juveniles under 5 inches. Fine sand for adults. Never use gravel, as it causes fatal impaction.
